"Finding Peace" - Chapter Six

I have now finished chapter six of this book.  It was probably the best chapter I have encountered in the entire book so far.  The title of this chapter is "How Your Thought Life Affects Your Peace" and it addresses seven categories of thoughts that will destroy your peace.

1.  Sinful thoughts
2.  Self-Limiting Thoughts
3.  Erroneous Thoughts
4.  Unrealistic Thoughts
5.  Rebellious Thoughts
6.  Obsessive Thoughts
7.  Enslaved Thoughts

Now if you think that you already know what is contained in the discussion on any of these seven categories of thoughts, you may need to think again.  When I began this chapter, I skimmed through the headings and thought that I knew what to expect from several of the categories.  But, what I found what the in each and every one of these categories, there were things that I would never have thought of.  There is also very good advice on how to handle each of these "thought" problems.

This was a chapter that I will re-visit  when I complete the book and make several notes from, no doubt.  I do not like to mark in my books;  otherwise, I would have highlighted many passages in this chapter.

On to Chapter Seven - I will post again when I complete the chapter.

"Finding Peace" - Continued

I have now completed Chapters Four and Five of this book.  Chapter Four talks about why we lose our peace.  It addresses five reasons or issues that cause us to lose our peace.

1.  Fear
2.  The Enemy
3. Sin
4. Giving Up Peace
5.  Losing Focus

Of course, Dr. Stanley addresses each of the issues, giving examples and giving sound advice on how to avoid losing our peace through these issues.

Chapter Five talks about having a peaceful heart and lists five essential beliefs for having a peaceful heart.
1.  God is Absolutely Sovereign
2. God is Your Provider
3.  God Made You the Way you Are for a Purpose
4. God has a Place where you Truly Belong
5.  God has a Plan for your Fulfillment

Again, in this chapter, Dr. Stanley addresses these five essential beliefs, detailing each of them and giving sound advice on how we can achieve these beliefs and, thus, a peaceful heart.

I look forward to the next few chapters and will update you as I complete them.

"Fireproof"

Again, this is not a reading - but a few days ago I had the opportunity to watch the movie "Fireproof".  This is a movie which was filmed by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA, the same people who filmed "Courageous".  The movie was great and teaches some great lessons for couples.  So - enjoy and if you get a chance - be sure to watch this movie.

More on "Finding Peace"

I have now completed chapter 3 of this book, which is not as much as I had hoped to accomplish by now.  I am going to have to be more stringent in setting a reading schedule, I suppose.

Anyway, Chapter 3 is entitled "The Quality of Peace God Gives" and this is exactly what the chapter covers.  Dr. Stanley is quick to point out that God does not promise that we will never have any troubles, strife or challenges.  He points out how we can still have peace through and in spite of all these things.

I am looking forward to getting through the next two or three chapters soon and will update you on those when I have completed them.

New reading - Finding Peace

I have started a new book - another by Charles Stanley.  The title is "Finding Peace".  I have read the first two chapters of the book so far and it seems to have sound advice on finding peace in our lives.

The first chapter of this book cover the issue of control - who is in control of your life?  The second chapter deals with the foundation for peace in our lives.  So far, this promises to be another good book with very sound, faith-based advice for finding peace in our lives - peace from our problems and anxieties.

I will keep you updated as I progress through the book.

The Source of My Strength - Completed

Tonight, I completed reading "The Source of My Strength", written by Charles Stanley.  This was a very interesting and informative book.  It catches your attention from the very beginning.  If you are dealing with any troubling life problems, whatever the source or type, this book can be a great help.

In the introduction, Stanley addresses the issue of emotional baggage.  I think we all have emotional baggage to deal with.  How we let this emotional baggage affect our lives depends on how we deal with it.  Dr. Stanley, in the introduction, guides us through the Lord's instructions on handling, or rather letting go of, our emotional baggage.

Dr. Stanley then addresses the subject of those who are dealing with loneliness in the first chapter.  He shows us the Lord's response to those who are lonely, gives advice for us when we are feeling lonely, and other sound advice, all based on God's principles.

In the second chapter, he addresses the times when we feel fearful. In this chapter, he gives sound advice on how to deal with anxiety and how to "reprogram" our minds to do away with our anxiety.  He gives us questions that we should ask ourselves each day.

In chapter three, Dr. Stanley gives us advice and words of comfort for those who are suffering from abuse.  He gives ten responses to abuse that inform on how to deal with the abuse, and what we should do if we are suffering from abuse.

In chapter four, he addresses the problem of our feeling inferior.  He gives us information on gaining a Godly perspective on our quest for perfection.  He gives several guidelines for overcoming feelings of inferiority.

Chapter five deals with feelings of guilt.  He addresses what we should do when we sin, the difference in sin and mistakes, and reminds us of the message of grace from God.

Chapter six deals with frustration - something that each of us deal with almost on a daily basis.  In this chapter, he points out that there is a difference between irritation and frustration that we cause ourselves and God-given frustration.  This chapter outlines how we can effectively deal with frustration and reach a state of contentment.

Chapter seven addresses feeling "burned out", another issue that most of us deal with regularly.  I know I deal with this quite often in my work.  Dr. Stanley outlines the seven principles that he has learned in dealing with being burned out and tells us how we can overcome this problem.

Chapter eight deals with feelings of being persecuted.  In this chapter, he outlines four keys that show us God's principles for dealing with persecution.  He outlines how to discern whether our perceived or real persecution is actually persecution for the Lord's sake or for other reasons.

In the conclusion, he speaks to pain and how it can be used to strengthen our relationship with the Lord and cause our faith to grow as we are healed through him.

Much of this book contains examples of each of these "battles" through examples of incidents in Dr. Stanley's life. He has experienced the issues that he speaks of in the book and explains what these battles were like for him and how God has remedied them in his life.

As we are all faced with problems, many of us deal with more than one of the issues dealt with in this book.  I highly recommend the book as an excellent guide to dealing with these problems.  Dr. Stanley gives many references to God's word that deals with each of these problems.  If you are dealing with any of these issues, and I do not know of anyone who is not dealing with, at the very least, one of these issues, this book can be a very valuable guide to resolving these issues in your life, allowing you to let go of the emotional baggage that plaques you and prevents total contentment in your life.

Almost Finished!

I have almost finished reading "The Source of My Strength".  This has been an awesome book by Dr. Stanley.  I only have a few more pages to go.  If you are having problems dealing with ANY of life's problems, I would recommend this book.  It covers most all of the everyday problems we encounter in our lives.

I have gotten in a couple of new books and will be previewing them in the future.
